What should I do if I am not able to tolerate my colon prep?

Please call our office in Fresno at (559) 299-9395 or Madera at (559) 673-4000 and one of our nurses will further explain the necessary steps.  Should you have trouble after hours, our answering service will forward your message to the physician on call.

Am I allowed to take my regular medications prior to my procedure?

Your instruction sheet details the medication directions.  As a general rule, it is best to hold your medication until after your procedure.  Please contact our office for further clarification.

How long will my procedure take and how long will I be at your facility?

Your procedure is generally 15 to 30 minutes long and we need to keep you in our recovery room for approximately 45 minutes.  Patients are typically at the facility for about 1 and ½ hours.

Is it permissible to bring children under the age of 16 to the Endoscopy Center ?

We prefer that children under the age of 16 not accompany adults who are scheduled for procedures at the Endoscopy Center.

Will I be sedated for the procedure?

Our nurses will administer what we call twilight sedation.  You will be able to make conversation during the procedure and follow instructions but should have to clear memory of what took place.

Can I proceed with my procedure if I am on antibiotics?

Yes, it is safe to have your procedure while on a course of antibiotics, but you do need to notify us if you have a fever.

Can I proceed with my procedure while on my menstrual cycle?

Yes.  We do recommend that you wear a tampon for your comfort.

Do I need a driver on the day of my procedure?

You are not legally allowed to operate a motor vehicle due to the sedation you receive.  It is mandatory that a friend or family member drive you home.  We also ask that this friend or family member remain on site until it is time for you to go home.

How do I ask for a refill?

Please call it in to your pharmacy at least 3 days in advance or, at the time of follow up, please notify the doctor so he/she can write you a prescription.

How much notice is needed to cancel my appointment?

Please contact our office as soon as you become aware that you are not able to make your scheduled appointment time.  There will be a charge for failure to cancel your appointment or procedure 72 hours in advance of scheduled time.

I am a diabetic. Are there special instructions regarding my prep?

Please contact our office for specific diet and medication instructions.

Is it safe to discontinue my Coumadin or other blood thinning agent?

Your physician will confer with your cardiac physician when needed as well as check your blood levels the day prior to your procedure.

How soon will I know the results of my procedure?

At the end of your procedure your physician will be able to inform you if you have a polyp or other visual abnormality.  If a biopsy is taken, we will send your specimen to your contracted facility. We should have the results of the biopsy in 3 to 5 days and will contact you upon receipt of these.

Why did I received two bills following my procedure at the endoscopy facility?

Our Endoscopy Center is owned separately by our physicians and maintains its own tax ID# seperate from California Gastroenterology Associates. Your billing is no different had it been performed by your physician at a hospital. One charge is for the physician services and one charge is for facility services.
